Auckland Cancer Society
The Auckland Cancer Society offers workers in Auckland and Northland who are engaged in clinical, educational, social or research activities related to cancer, funding to travel to overseas conferences or meetings. Closing dates for 2008 are 20 February and 20 August annually. The Auckland Cancer Society also offers Research Grants and Training Scholarships. Please visit their website for further information.
Child Cancer Foundation
The Child Cancer Foundation has funds available for scientific research to be conducted into the causes of childhood cancer. This initiative is called the Challenge Research Fund. The deadline for applications is 1 November.
In addition to the Challenge Research Fund, the Child Cancer Foundation supports other research opportunities which may be funded locally or nationally through one-off grants.

Health Research
The Lottery Health Research committee funds research projects that will improve the health status of New Zealanders. It distributes grants to fund research into the cause, prevention and treatment of disorders affecting the health of New Zealanders; research that will lead to advances in health and bio-medical science for the ultimate benefit of all New Zealanders and the development, maintenance and retention of a highly skilled workforce of health and bio-medical researchers in New Zealand. There are two applications you can make Research Projects and Shared Equipment and PhD Scholarships.

NZNO offers several sources of funding in the form of scholarships and grants for nurses. It also administers the Nursing Education and Research Foundation (NERF) and the Gretta and Harry Hamblin Trust. Tertiary Education Commission
The Bright Future scholarships scheme supports people to conduct research. Bright Future includes two scholarships: Top Achiever Doctoral Scholarships and Enterprise Scholarships. In 2008, Enterprise Scholarship applications will be accepted on the 1st of each month (or the closest working day after). The deadline for 2008 Top Achiever Doctoral Scholarships applications is: Wednesday 14 May 2008 and Wednesday 10 December 2008.

An organisation helping to increase Maori participation in tertiary education. Te Tapuae O Rehua also provides a database of scholarships available for Maori throughout New Zealand.
The Maurice & Phyllis Paykel Trust
The Maurice & Phyllis Paykel Trust provide Project Grants and Equipment Grants for individuals or groups working in the health related biomedical sciences, or in the fields of public health and health education. Applications for project grants-in-aid (including equipment items) are considered at meetings in April and November each year. Relevant closing dates are March (for the April meeting of the Trust Board) and 1 October (November meeting).
