Background and development

The PH WDP is based on a wide range of foundation research.  A 2004 survey of public health providers and the workforces in those organisations, a range of topic specific reports, the public health sector feedback on the draft PH WDP and emergency management research provides a clear indication of some of the issues impacting on the public health workforce.

The following table is a summary of the workforce issues identified in the background research and shows the specific PH WDP approaches developed to frame the addressing actions.
