Workforce development initiatives

This page outlines the Pacific public health workforce development initiatives arising from both Te Uru Kahikatea: The Public Health Workforce Development Plan (PH WDP) and other important sector-based initiatives occurring at national, regional and local levels across New Zealand.  Both groups will remain updated, but the sector initiatives information will grow as existing and new initiatives become known.

Te Uru Kahikatea workforce development initiatives

Te Uru Kahikatea action 3.1 is to "Support the development and implementation of a strategic approach to strengthen the Pacific public health workforce and increase the capability of the non-Pacific workforce to improve Pacific health and reduce inequalities".  The first step to achieving this action is to improve the information available about this section of the workforce.

First stage research has been completed (NZIER Final Report), which informs the overall approach and priorities for Pacific public health workforce development.  The Ministry of Health is currently working to review and prioritise the recommendations arising from the NZIER Final Report.
